Upgraded to edgy eft
Yeh this should be an old entry to be honest i cant remember when i actually did this.. but here we go.
I upgraded from ubuntu dapper drake to edgy eft synaptic, it went fairly smooth or so it seemed. on reboot my splash was gone so i had no clue if my system had halted of if it was doing anything at all really. eventually gdm started. then it crashed within a matter of seconds, after some thinking i realized it could be the custom compiz settings i had. so i went in to my gdm.conf (which had been overwritten) and realize that it was all back to default so that was not the problem. Xorg needed re-configuring. after that was done gdm would start. I attempted to login gnome starts then just crashes and returned to gdm..
I resorted to using fvwm after digging adn digging i found away to open my gnome session from within fvwm and from there i removed the custom session startups tha ti had set namely the dbus and compiz startup i had to set to get things workign smoothely in dapper. After doing that everything seemed perfect. shortly after upgrading i decided hmm let me watch an episode of black blood brothers (cool anime). mplayer starts up in the normal window size i try to maximize it does however the video is still small. no matter what i do mplayer will not maximize the video.
Gnome begins to move extremely sluggish.. I have no clue what is going on.. packages are broken everywhere. the seemly smooth upgrade didn’t go so smooth after all.
