Nervous before the shoot

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

In a few minutes maybe an hour the most I’ll be photographing a curvey model. Boudoir Photography is the aim of today and apparently one of my favourite types of photography. The female body truely is an beautiful piece of artwork. Today I hope to deliver some stunning and dramatic images to the client. Just need to calm down quell this nervous feeling and snag the shots then have her on her way so i can do my post processing. Overall I think everything should be fine. I’ve planned in advanced as to what i’ll have her do and so on. So as soon as i start racking up the exposures I’ll feel normal.

And the photoshoots ensue

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Last saturday was a lot of fun.. and headaches.. My first photoshoot that didn’t take place at my home in my little makeshift studio. The set was Hope Gardens and i think i did pretty well. The model was such a sweetheart. She was patient with me. and didn’t mind doing what i told / asked her to. as a result i got some greaet images. I only posted 2 for the world to see.

Very abstract and contrasty image.. I love it I cant thank her enough for taking the time out of her day to spend about 5hrs with me to do a shoot around hope gardens.

More equipment

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

I recently purchased some more photography equipment from my online sources. I got a backdrop support system which when fully extended cant fit in my room at all. A softbox a new eyecup and a filter kit. Also I got a 8 card capacity memory card case from my sister (thanks sis). Currrently I just have a fwe more things left to acquire

  1. canon 70-200 F2.8 IS L or  SIGMA  70-200 F2.8 DG APO MA
  2. Tripod [ impact tripod / 3 way pan head ]
  3. bogen manfrotto monopod
  4. SEEMLESS BACKGROUND PAPER
  5. studio strobes
  6. FLASH STAND

those 6 items are quite costly but I do intend to acquire them. The photostudio is looking quite nicely so far.. There’s an extra room in my house i was contemplating using but.. I’m not so sure how well that’ll go.

Jamaica Carnival / Bacchanal 2008

Before i start let me first say

If anybody steals these images. I bringing the law still. They are copyrighted, and owned by ME. if you wish to use them for anything at all, publication be it web or print. Contact me and make a request.
On sunday the 30th of march I hauled my ass out of bed and hit the streets at 11:00am with the intention of covering the jamaica carnival and bacchanal road march for 2008. I missed the bacchanal people at their start point. I had intended to leave ith them as i was based in mona from saturday night. I high tailed it to worthington avenue in new kingston and waited from 11:30 to about 2pm when the bacchanal group made their way from eden gardens around the bend onto trafalgar road. the shooting then began. I got some really great images, One thing i know for sure is i found the sweet spot with the 2 lens’s i mainly used. I worked the crowed from there on sstraight to the intersection at YMCA. on arriving there i had totalled my 2 gig cf card. (was shooting in raw format). I swapped to my backup 1 gig and then headed to half way tree road with the intention off grabbing some  shots of the Jamaica Carnival march.

One thing i can say for certain the Jamaica carnival gets a zero the bacchanal march gets a 10. The jamaica carnival group was extremely boring. I shot them as they passed (was in the streets with them just like i did with the bacchanal group) and I got no energy from them at all, most those images i just parked.

After they jamaicca carnival group passed i hightailed it to york pharmacy bought 2 bottles of water and finish them in like 30 seconds (i’ve been running off a king sized snickers from 11 in the morning). I decided there that I might as well head back to mona. i headed to the new buspark wehre they had a music setup and a huge crowed there. then shortly after i heard the chants of carnival revellers. it was the bacchanal group again *YAY*. I geared up once again and got in the streets with em and started shooting once again. By this time i had to switch from raw files to medium format jpgs. I rolled with the bacchanal grup from the halfway tree buspark all the way back into new kingston and down knutsford boulevard. making my final stand in the isle inthe middle of the road (infront of burger king). after the crowd decipated and i got a shot of a bad ass hot rod car I called it a day and headed back to mona.

For this day my gear consisted of my Rebel XT, sigma 70 - 300mm telephoto lens, 50mm canon f/1.8 and my trusty could not do it without it opteka battery grip which allowed me to shoot all day with out the sightest battery problem :)  and now for what you all have been waiting to see. The images.

Photo Junkie at large

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Yeah. Photography is time consuming, takes alot of research but it sure is fun. as of lately i think i’ve found some kind of balance in my life. Spend time with a lady friend, work, pereson web development and photography Everything is going on fine non of them suffers.. Well I do from time to time (tired as hell at times).  But I’m really happy with how everything is pulling together gotta give God some thanks yknow.

Here’s a photo i took of my gear the other day (some things are missing). It made me ralize that I really need to start pulling some serious ROI on this photography thing.

What's in my crumpler

This shows how much of a photo junkie I am

Photo Junkie Literature

But thats all you guys get here, I post daily at my photoblog photoja.net. We have a project going on over there called the 365 photoproject. where we gotta compose 1 shot a day to post. Going well so far. I have’t put up my shot for yesterday though So sorry to dissapoint those who check daily.

Re  personal web development everything is going fine no problems or complaints. Re work Things are fine there as well.

Oh big tings instore for the linux users ubuntu hardy herron is about to drop we got 30+ days to go. The timer is on my blog side bar. so i hve 30 days to clean up my system this time i think i’m gonna go with a fresh install instead of an upgrade like i always ddo. I’ve been upgrading my ubuntu book for about 3 years now. and it still runs fairly decent.. just the other day i realize it start get slugish.

The weekend Aproaches what are your plans

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

This weekend I pretty much plan to keep offline. Tomorrow i should be picking up my battery grip and 2 extra batteries for my Rebel XT. Then I should heading up to mona to chill with the friends for a bit before heading home. On saturday There’s a child abortion march. I”m gonna be rolling with those people for the photography purposes Then i’m gonna cut from there and do a lil expidition (haven’t fully planned out where as yet just wanna push my camera batteries to the limit to see how long 3 batteries will last). Sunday is a movie or two with my movie partner in crime / girl next door chick. After that its pretty much prepare for work watch some anime or something and the weekend is over.

Oh here’s a little idle / geeky thing i did today

and finally I leave you with a macro Shot i took last night

Killer Ant

I had planned to use this as my day 4 shot for the 365 photo project I’m doing over at photoja.net but i took it about 1hr before midnight so its not truely my day 4 shot (I’ve yet to compose it).

Photoshoot tonight :)

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I have a studio shoot tonight. Have some pretty interesting shots planned. Hope it all works out well. Sadly I’m not sure if I’ll be able to post any of them here at all. There are a few that I’ve already done which look awesome but the models wont allow it to be published in anything what so ever. :(. I need to start researching paid models apparently. Cause ones that model for free wont want it published most the times.

January.. The hardest month in the whole year.. well for everybody except Adrian i’m sure lol. anyway i’m just about out of cash and i got a memo at work saying oops server crash pays gonna be late.. see you on the 28th.. I mean it aint on purpose so whatever. Sucks though… Why isn’t there a backup payroll system on another server or something to that effect.. lame.

Finally got my remote shutter release made for my camera it looks pretty good and works quite well

Great news from canon There’s a new Dslr on the scene and I think i wanna buy it as my primary rig and use my rebel xt as my secondary rig.

Oh also any women that visit my blog that wanna be a photo subject Feel free to contact me

The weekend in review

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Not a bad weekend. A few dissapointments but I’m alive today so it must have been a good weekend at the end of the… weekend… :s.. anyway. I went home on thursday night and went to work from portmore. So i got to kick it with this chick that lives infront of me. I spent most of friday morning trying to convince her to model for a photosession for me. I’ve taken a few photos of her and even given her prints yet she wont model for me in a controlled environment where i have control over the lighting the backdrop and so on. she agreed yet on sunday the shoot had to be cancelled..

with the non existence of the good old xbox 360 (it was sold) there is basically nothing to do on the weekends other than photography which i definately dont mind. me and the photo crew hit halfway tree on saturday for the bus park opening howver the damn thing wasn’t open to the public which is some real bullshit if you ask me. they said sunday.. and i wasn’t in the mood to go on the road on sunday so there’s no bus park photos for you to ohh and awe about as yet.

Majority of saturday evening and sunday was spent re-vamping my remote shutter releease switch for my dslr. It really sucked that it had a electrical short during the huge blackout last week it was a perfect night for a star trial attempt. I tried crimping the wires and holding it for 5 minutes with my hands to get the best i could.. take a look

(click large image or you wont be able to see the trial).

on friday at work there was a staff party. I think i honestly failed at that to see my rant about the failure and a few of the images head here. After the staff party i headed to mona where there was idling and rum cream. after which we all went to medusa’s bar and idled some more (there was no more drinking by me though). Got some cool photos at medusa.. not much though.

sorry for the in coherent flow of time but i just started typing and clicking and when i was done i was like ouch.. (its too late to apologize ???)

anyway thats it for the day.
